Number Systems

Binary examples $1101_2$ The 2 stands for the number base. In this case binary.

• Number base: Number of individual digits in the number system.

• Base 10 (Decimal or denary) Eg: $62_{10} = \overset{10^1}{6}|\overset{10^0}{2}$ $62_{10} = (6\times10) + (2\times1)$

• Base 2 (binary) Eg: $1101_2 =\overset{2^3}{1}|\overset{2^2}{1}|\overset{2^1}{0}| \overset{2^0}{1}$ $1101_2 = (1\times8) + (1\times4) + (0\times2) + (1\times1)$

• Base 16 (Hexadecimal) Eg: $FF_{16} = \overset{16^1}{F}|\overset{16^0}{F}$ $(15\times16) + (15\times1)$
